How to Disable WordPress Admin Bar for All Users Except Administrators

Do you want to disable the WordPress admin bar for any or specific users on your site? WordPress has a method for manually disabling the admin bar per user but that is not feasible if you have a lot of registered users on your site. In this article, we’ll show you how to disable the WordPress admin bar for all users except administrators.

There are a few different methods to do this and for the first option, we would recommend going under Users, All Users and click on edit beneath the user you want to hide the admin bar from. You should scroll down and in the options, there will be the Toolbar option to show the toolbar when viewing the site and uncheck it.

To limit the admin bar based on user role, you would want to install and activate the Hide Admin Bar Based on User Roles plugin. Under Settings, Hide Admin Bar Settings you can check the box next to the role where you would like to hide the admin bar. The plugin download link can be found below.

For the added code, you would need to go under Appearance, Theme Editor, and find the functions.php file also titled theme functions. Scroll to the bottom and add the code from the article. The first code will disable the code for all users except the admin while the second code will disable it for everyone.

Once you install, activate, and validate the plugin you will have access to all of the powerful features available to you with the builder. Now we can go under SeedProd, Pages to start creating our landing page.

SeedProd starts you off by selecting a template that you can filter between different pre-created templates for getting you up and going. With the template selected, you will name the template, and it will bring you to the template for you to customize. If you are worried about your specific changes then SeedProd even has an undo and redo button for any changes you may make.

With the plugin installed and activated you can start editing a page with the Beaver Builder page editor. This will bring up Beaver Builder’s interface where you can start editing and customizing the page to your liking.

For this tutorial we will be using WPForms, you can purchase it using the link above for our discounted rate. That will allow you to download and add the plugin to your site. For the pro features, you would want to add your license key in the settings as well.

With the plugin installed and activated, we will go under WPForms, Add New to start creating our form and we will use the Request A Quote form template. You have the power to change how the fields are displayed on the form itself and when you embed it the form will be the same as it is in the builder.

In the form’s settings, you can change the different notification options such as where to send the form, the from name, and the subject line to improve the chances that your message would be seen.

Once you set up the form how you like, we will want to go to the post or page you would like it to appear on and add the WPForms block. In the dropdown, select the form you wish to include on the page by choosing the name you had for it.

When you sign up for BlueHost, they install the WordPress site for you to give you a starting point, if they have not we cover how to set it up in our guide below.

For exporting your site’s content, you would want to log into your WordPress.com site and under Tools, Export and use the free exporter option. Unless you want to only export part of your site, you would want to use the option to export all of your content.

Now, on your new site, you would want to go under Tools, Import, install the WordPress importer tool if it is not installed, and run that importer.

You would choose the XML file that WordPress.com gave you and upload that file. If WordPress.com gave you a zip file, you would want to take the XML files out of that zip file and upload them individually.

You should see a list of any authors you had on your WordPress.com site with the option to assign posts to a user on your current site. You would want to ensure you check the option to download and import your file attachments to ensure your images and any other media on your old site are brought to your new site.

With your content imported and moved over, you would want to go back to your WordPress.com site, set the site to private, and redirect the site so your users and search engines will know to go to the new site.

The first method shown is what is currently the default option in WordPress. We would want to create or edit a post and in the post/document tab, we would want to scroll down to the Excerpt section and click the arrow next to it. This will give you an area to fill out what you want your excerpt to be.

For a second option, if you want what you’ve already written to be the excerpt for your post then we will go to the post we want it added to. Below the text that we want to be the excerpt, we want to add the more block. This should add the text above the more block as your content.

For the third option we will be using the plugin below:

Once you install and activate the plugin, you can go under Settings, Excerpt to customize the defaults for how you want the excerpt to appear. If you already have custom excerpts on a few posts then you can uncheck the custom excerpts box in the plugin’s setting to keep those excerpts.
