For this tutorial, we will be using WPForms Pro which you can purchase using the link above. Install and activate the plugin, and in the settings add the license key to verify your product. Finally, for this tutorial you will go under WPForms and into the Addons area to activate the Form Templates Pack Addon.

We will go into WPForms, Add New and name our new form what we want, and we will scroll down to select the file upload template. Select it and WPForms will create a form for you with pre-populated fields that you can decide to use or not. These will include an upload field, comments, and other fields that are normally included in this type of form.

You can delete any fields you don’t want to use or if you select a field, on the left-hand side you will have options available for editing the field to display how you want. For the upload section, you can limit to certain file types and allow multiple files if you wanted.

For this guide, we will check the box to store files in the WordPress Media Library so the files are saved on your site itself. In the general settings for the form, we’ll set the admin email address, the subject, and decide if we send them to a thank you page or send a thank you message.

How to Password Protect a Page or Post in WordPress

Do you want to password protect one or more pages in WordPress? This could be for private pages for specific clients or for getting started if you want to keep your site content a secret until launch. In this video, we will show you how to password protect pages in WordPress.

For the built-in method, you can go to a specific post or page on your WordPress site and in the document settings under Status and Visibility you can change the visibility to Password Protected. Set the password you want your users to input and save your changes, now when someone visits that specific post/page they will be prompted to offer a password.

If you’re wanting to password protect the entirety of your site, WordPress does not have a built-in method to set this up but we do recommend SeedProd that you can purchase from the link above. Install, activate, and in the plugin’s settings add your license key to have it start working. Under Settings, Coming Soon Pro you have the choice to activate the plugin for your site.

If you want to have a URL that people can use to get past your coming soon page you can scroll down the settings to set up a bypass URL. When a user visits with this URL they will view the site without any issues. If you want to only limit certain URLs you can select the Include URLs in the Advanced Settings area. Don’t forget to edit your coming soon page to the design you want it to appear with using the button in the General Settings section.

How to Ask Google to Recrawl URLs of Your WordPress Site

We’ve been asked by multiple users about specific URLs on their site not appearing in Google’s search results. In this video, we will show you how to ask Google to recrawl URLs of your WordPress site.

Add site to Google Search Console: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-l6733dDx9Q

Yoast Installation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KOc-oM7Yr8

Start by ensuring your site is on Google Search Console, once your site is added you can request Google crawl the specific property. With your site a part of Google Search Console you will want to select the site in your search console and add the problem URL in the search field. Goole will bring up the information it has on that specific URL and gives you the option to crawl or recrawl depending on what it knows.

If you’re worried about your site being indexed you can add your sitemap to Google to help ensure all of your posts are added. Install and activate an SEO plugin, for this we recommend Yoast and once you install and activate the plugin an SEO section should be added to your admin area. Under SEO, General, scroll down to XML sitemaps and click the question mark. The area should expand to allow you to get the URL for your sitemap you can submit to Google Search Console.

How to Stop Search Engines from Crawling a WordPress Site

We’ve been asked if you can stop search engined from indexing a WordPress site by some of our users. This is mainly for sites just getting started or maintenance. In this article, we will show you how to stop search engines from crawling a WordPress site.

This video brought to you by SeedProd take a look at their site here:

=================================

https://www.seedprod.com/

=================================

For a discount, use our code: WPBVIP

To start we will log into the site and under Settings, Reading we will check the box to discourage search engines from indexing our site. This will let search engines know when they try to crawl the site that you request it not be added by the search engine.

Now, to protect the site we have a few options, to begin we will use the built-in password protection from our hosting provider. Log in and check for Password Protect Directories or Directory privacy and go there. Select the folder for your specific site or you can use the public html folder should you only have one site.

It will promtp you to choose a name for tne protected directory, then set up a username and password that will be required to view the site. When you view the site, every time you viist, a browser notification will pop up asking you for the login information you set.

For the other method we have two plugin options available, the first we will use is SeedProd linked above. Purchase the plugin, download the zip file, under Add New for plugins click the upload button and add the zip file there. As this is a pro plugin you would want to add your license key and you will be able to enable the coming soon mode for your site. The SeedProd plugin even gives you a bypass URL that will only allow users who have a specific url to visit your site.

If you would prefer a free plugin we would recommend the Password Protected plugin found here:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/password-protected/

This plugin, once enabled, allows you to limit access to your site to admin or logged in users. Set the password that should be used and feel free to enable the allow Remember me so the password does not need to be continually entered.

How to Create Custom Permalinks in WordPress

Do you want to customize the permalinks for your WordPress posts, pages, and other post types? We’ve had users reach out to us wanting to customize this safely without breaking their links. In this video, we’ll show you how to create custom permalinks in WordPress without affecting your SEO.

This video is sponsored by MonsterInsights, take a look at MonsterInsights here:
=================================
https://www.monsterinsights.com/
=================================

For the discount, use our code: WPBVIP

At the end of the video, we will show you how to create redirects but for sites with a visitor base, we would recommend caution before changing permalinks. For your standard permalinks, you can go under Settings, Permalinks and modify the permalink structure there. We normally recommend the post name structure for most sites.

Below the standard permalinks, there is the option to change the category and tag base. This would mean rather than your site/category/name it would be what you set here replacing category in the URL.

For individual posts or pages, with the block editor, you would go next to the title for modifying or in the document settings under permalink. This will allow you to change the final part of the permalink with the post’s name only to let you make it the correct name that you are wanting.

For changing a category you would go under Posts, Categories, and click the edit link beneath the category name you want to modify. You will both have the option to change the name you see on the back end of your site as well as the slug which is what is added in the URL.

For editing the author slug we would recommend using the Edit Author Slug plugin found here:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/edit-author-slug/

With that active, you can go under Users, All Users and edit the user who’s slug you want to modify. For the permalink for authors in general if you wanted to change that then you would want to go under Settings, Edit Author Slug.

For even greater control over your permalinks, we would recommend the Custom Permalinks plugin found here:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-permalinks/

With the plugin activated you can edit the post you want and scroll down to find the custom permalink editor below. This will give you the power to make this specific content have any permalink you want. You can also visit the categories themselves to customize it there.

With the permalinks changed this can cause 404 errors when trying to visit their old links which is a greater problem for already set up sites. To solve this we will be using the Redirection plugin found here:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/redirection/

this will allow you to redirect the posts from their old locations to your new custom permalink.
