11:00 Our favorite blogging platform to use

When you’re selecting the best blogging platform for you, you would want to keep in mind the ease of use, how beginner friendly the platform is, the available features, and how much room you have to grow.

Our primary recommendation is a WordPress.org site for your maximum control, breadth of features, and thousands of themes to style your site. However, with that control, you are in charge of maintenance, updates, and backups of your site.

Wix has plenty of built in functionality, is a fully hosted platform, and has dozens of templates. They do have the negatives of showing their branding on your site, their ads on your site, and making it difficult to move away from their platform should you decide to move in the future.

WordPress.com is a hosted platform of WordPress that gives you similar tools to a WordPress.org site with some limitations as they manage a large portion of the maintenance and upkeep of the site. THe drawback being you can’t run ads and you don’t own your blog so if you violate their posting guidelines then they can remove your site.

Blogger is a Google product that is free to use and blog on which means it has the security tools of Google themselves. However, it has limited features and Google has been known to stop supporting different products of theirs in the past.

Tumblr is a micro blogging service that’s free and easy to use and integrated with social media from the start. Similar to blogger there are limited features and it is difficult to migrate your content to another platform as needed.

Medium is geared for specifically writing for free and shares your articles with writers in their network. This limits the features available, limits you to Medium’s audience, and you can’t monetize the site easily.

Squarespace allows you to build a site with drag and drop features, ecommerce compatibility, and beautiful templates. They do have limited features and integrations available and limit you to 20 pages.

Ghost is the minimalist blogging platform that helps you to focus on writing with a clutter free interface. There is a lack of customizations, integrations, and themes, and it is a difficult installation if you are not using their specific hosting.

Finally, there is Weebly with a drag and drop interface that hosts everything for you with their different plans. Like some of the other platforms there are few features, third-party integrations, and migrating to a different service can be difficult.

5 Simple Ways to Get More Traffic to Your Website (2022)

Starting a site has become easy with platforms like WordPress to help you get started. Once the site is set up, however, the next big challenge you have is to bring more traffic to your blog or website. In this video, we will give you five actionable ways to get more traffic to your website.

Links mentioned in this video:

Keyword Research
https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-do-keyword-research-for-your-wordpress-blog/

Power Words to Use in Headlines

WordPress SEO Guide
https://www.wpbeginner.com/wordpress-seo/

Lead Magnet Ideas
https://optinmonster.com/9-lead-magnets-to-increase-subscribers/

First, you would want to do keyword research for your site, to begin with, we normally recommend listing out the type of content you will be writing. With those ideas written out, you can use tools such as ahrefs and answer the public to see possible keywords you can rank for.

Ahrefs
https://www.wpbeginner.com/refer/ahrefs/

Answer the Public:
https://answerthepublic.com

Second, you will want to create useful content for your users. This includes being thorough enough to get the entire idea out so as many people as possible can understand it and formatting your content to prevent it from being a wall of text that is difficult to read.

With the first two set up, you will want to look into improving the SEO of your site. Add your keywords you want the post to rank for into your post’s content and title, add alt text to your images for accessibility, and link to other articles on your site to help keep your visitors on your site. The Yoast SEO plugin is also a good plugin to add to your site for helpful checks for your post’s SEO.

Next, you will want to start networking to grow who knows about your site. You can post on social networks, online communities, other search engines, and even use question and answer sites to find content or answers to help you create your content.

Lastly, to retain your users you will want to create an email list. You can use an optin form to bring attention to your email list for users to sign up and you can also add a lead magnet to incentivize someone to add themselves to your email list.

The 4 Most Important Pages Every Website Should Have (2022)

If you recently started a site you may be wondering what are the most important pages you should have visible. Pages allow you to add useful information or tools for your users so ensuring you have all the pages your users need is important. In this video, we will show you the 4 most important pages to have for your website!

Your Home page tells users what your business does, who you serve, how to help, and something for them to act on, a call to action. One site with a call to action as an example would be OptinMonster:

https://optinmonster.com/

The About page is where you tell your users who you are, your history, and how you’re different than the competition. For a site with a good about page as an example we recommend MonsterInsights:
https://www.monsterinsights.com/about/

Your contact page should tell users the best method to contact you. You can also list things like your social media profiles, a physical address and even a phone number if you would like. For an example of this we would recommend looking at our own contact page:

https://www.wpbeginner.com/contact/

Lastly, there is your Blog page where you can post updates about your business or industry to have continual content for your readers to come back to your site for. Our example site is WPForms and you can find the blog page here:

How to Easily Bulk Delete WordPress Posts on Your Site

Trying to delete multiple WordPress posts in bulk? WordPress has built-in tools to help manage multiple posts but selecting and deleting them can take some time. In this video, we’ll show you some of our recommended ways to handle bulk deleting posts in WordPress!

The first method will be using the built-in WordPress method in the Posts, All Posts page. You would want to check the box next to the post you are wanting to delete or click the check at the top of the list to select all of the posts. Using the screen options in the top right you can decide the number of posts to display on one page.

Use the dropdown at the top to select the bulk action, in this case, we will select delete to delete the images. To sort the posts so you have more control over what is selected, if you click the author’s name it will display all of the posts by that author while if you click a category it will show all of the posts in that specific category.

For our second method we will be using the “Bulk Delete” plugin:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/bulk-delete/

With the plugin installed and activated you will want to click on the Bulk WP menu option to see the plugin’s settings. This plugin allows you to decide posts by date range, post type, and even delete post revisions using the plugin.

How to Add a FTP like File Manager in Your WordPress Site

Do you want to add an FTP like file manager in your WordPress admin area? A file manager can help you edit the specific files with WordPress configuration, themes, plugins, and other files from your WordPress dashboard. In this video, we’ll show you how to easily add an FTP like file manager in WordPress.

For this tutorial we will be using the plugin “File Manager” found here:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-file-manager/

With the plugin installed and activated you will see in your admin menu a section titled “WP File Manager” that you want to go to. When the page loads it will show you the file manager app with the files and folders for your WordPress site.

The toolbar matches a normal FTP client with the ability to preview, edit, upload, download, and delete files or folders on your site. Most of your files that you want to edit are in your wp-content folder for your plugin files, your uploaded media files and your theme files in their respective folders.
