How to Reset a WordPress Password from phpMyAdmin

Are you trying to reset your password and not able to get in your site? Sometimes you don’t have access to the email account that your user is set up with or your site is not correctly sending you the email. We’ve helped hundreds of users solve this issue and have created this video to help guide you on how to reset your WordPress password from phpMyAdmin.

WordPress makes it easy to reset your password on the login page but can sometimes have an issue either sending the email or you may have lost access to the email attached to your user. When this happens you would want to go through your hosting area to get to your phpMyAdmin.

This is normally under the databases section of your hosting dashboard which can be called your cPanel. Click on the link and it should open a new interface and list the databases attached to your account.

Most first time site owners should only have one database with the _users, _terms, options, and possibly tables named after plugins active on your site. Your prefix can be wp or it could be something else by your hosting’s security.

You will want to click browse for the _users table to see the users on your site. Find the user you want to change the password for and click the edit link.

Replace the text in the value field to the password you want to be your new password then in the function dropdown select MD5. Once you do that click Go/Run at the bottom of the page and it will update your password on your site.

Start by going to the login screen of your WordPress site. You can add the following to the end of your domain to normally get to the login page of your site:

/wp-admin
/wp-login.php

Most sites should have a link below the login section that states “Lost your password?” that you want to click. It will bring you to a new section requesting your username or Email Address, this will send an email to that user’s email or the specified email if there is a user with that email address.

The page should update with the message “Check your email for the confirmation link. The email itself should have your blog title followed by Password Reset in your inbox after a few minutes. Make sure you check your spam or junk folders as some emails can be caught there.

The second link in your email should be to reset your password, it will take you back to your website and will allow you to enter a new password for your account. It will automatically generate a strong password for you that you can change to your own password of choice. When that is set up you can press the Reset Password button to set your password.

If you are not receiving the email or are having another issue with resetting using this method you would want to take a look at our article:

To begin you want to ensure you have a business Pinterest account, if you have a personal account you are able to upgrade without a charge by clicking the ellipses(…) and there should be the option to upgrade in the menu that will ask for your business name, website, and business type.

If you do not have a Pinterest account in general then you would want to sign up at the Pinterest site:

https://www.pinterest.com/business/create/

Fill out your email, password, business name, and business type to begin with and Pinterest will ask you followup questions on the next few pages to help create your Pinterest business account.

Under the eclipse go to Settings then, go to the Claim Website page to let Pinterest know where to find your website. Once you click the Claim Website button it will have a popup that gives you a choice on how to prove a website is yours.

We will be showing you how to add the HTML tag to your site using two methods. The first is with Yoast under their Social section you can add the HTML tag in the Pinterest confirmation box. If you are not using Yoast or a plugin that allows the tag to be added then you would want to use the Insert Headers and Footers plugin:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/insert-headers-and-footers/

With this plugin installed and active you can go under Settings, Insert Headers and Footers and paste the verification code in the header box. Pinterest can take up to to 24 hours to verify your site but will normally do so faster than that. Once verified you will now be able to see analytics on Pinterest.

For the first method, we will use the built-in image widget. You can set the title then click the add image button to have the choice of using an image from your media library or upload an entirely new image. You will even have the option to add a link to the image to point wherever you would like.

For a second method, you could use a text widget and click the add media button to add the image as you would with a page or post and have the option to add additional text to the widget that does not require it to be connected specifically to your image in the sidebar.

The third method is to use the Custom HTML widget. Start by going to your media library and copying the location of the image. Next, add the widget and include the img tag with the src and alt attributes. Add the location of the image for the src and a description of the image for the alt.

With the fourth method, we will be using an image widget plugin found here:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/image-widget/

If you do not know how to install a plugin, take a look at our article:

http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/step-by-step-guide-to-install-a-wordpress-plugin-for-beginners/

Once activated it will add a new widget called Image Widget that you can add to your widget area. Click the Select Image button to upload or choose the image and be sure to insert the image to your sidebar using the Insert to Widget button. The plugin also allows a link, link title, link ID, alt text, image size, and a caption compared to the normal image widget.

As with all of the methods you would want to ensure you save the widget for it to appear on your site.

Comments are powerful tools for engaging your users and sometimes you want more than just the option for text. Some sites allow images in the comments and that can be a great way to increase engagement on your own site.

If you do not know how to install a plugin, you can take a look at our guide here:

http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/step-by-step-guide-to-install-a-wordpress-plugin-for-beginners/

For this tutorial we will be using the Comment Attachment plugin found here:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/comment-attachment/

When you activate the plugin you will go to Settings, Discussion page in your admin area which will now have a Comment Attachment section. You can decide how the attachment field should display and the settings involved in adding the images. These settings include file size, file type, and the title of the field.

All images added this way will be added to your media library where you can edit or delete the image as needed. We would recommend ensuring you have a comment posting guideline to let your users know what is allowed to be uploaded on to your site in their comments.

How to Change the Font Size in WordPress (3 Different Options)

NEW VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCG9Jxd6Mlw

Are you wanting to change the font size on your WordPress posts and pages? Not all themes have a simple built-in method for changing the size of text but we have taught many people the way to change this. In this video, we will show you how to change the font size in WordPress.

The simplest step would be to use the header tags which are styled by the theme you are using. By highlighting specific text, clicking the dropdown, and selecting the style you want your theme will customize it to be that specified font size. Every theme is unique so depending on the theme would determine how the text will look.

A second method would be to install and activate the TinyMCE advanced plugin found here:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/tinymce-advanced/

Once you activate the plugin go under Settings, TinyMCE Advanced to customize the editor’s settings. You will see the TinyMCE Editor and be able to add or remove extra buttons but for this, we want the font family and font size added to the editor. This will allow you to choose how large the text should be as well as how it should be styled.

The third method requires a little knowledge of CSS as we will be walking through how to manually edit the code for your site for your font size. You will go under Appearance, Customize, Additional CSS to get to the built-in editor. Target what you want to add a change to, for paragraphs, it’s normally p.

If you do not know what to target you can find out using inspect element, we have an article on how to use inspect element below:

http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/basics-of-inspect-element-with-your-wordpress-site/

Beginner’s Guide to Creating Redirects in WordPress

Are you wanting to create a redirect on your WordPress site and not sure how to do so? Redirects send a browser from one location to a new one by telling the user’s browser that the page has been moved and it should automatically point them to the new location. There are many types of redirects available but for this, we will be covering 301 or permanent redirect. In this video, we will show you how to create a redirect in WordPress.

If you do not know how to install plugins you would want to take a look at our article on how to do so:

http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/step-by-step-guide-to-install-a-wordpress-plugin-for-beginners/

For the first method, we will be using the redirection plugin found here:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/redirection/

With the redirection plugin active you would go under Tools, Redirection to set up the redirects that you want. The plugin even helps you find 404s on your site so you can easily redirect those to the correct location.

A second plugin to try would be the plugin Page Links to found here:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/page-links-to/

With the Page Links to plugin, you would go to edit one of your pages or posts and there will be a new meta box in the edit screen where you can enter the address of the new location to send your visitors.

We do not recommend multiple redirect plugins at the same time, only use the one you prefer best. For a third and final plugin option, you could use the Simple 301 Redirects plugin found here:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-301-redirects

With the plugin active you should be able to go to Settings, 301 Redirects and add your URLs to the options page. The first box requests path to what you are wanting to be redirected and the second box requires the full link and not just a path.

Should you prefer not to use a plugin you would want to use FTP to find the .htaccess file on your server. For how to use FTP you would want to take a look at:

http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-use-ftp-to-upload-files-to-wordpress-for-beginners/

Download the current .htaccess and rename it to something like .htaccess.old in case there is an error with your new one. Edit the htacess with your preferred text editor and a redirect should look similar to:

RewriteEngine On
Redirect 301 /a-very-old-post/ http://yoursite.com/a-very-new-post/

With the code added to your .htaccess file, upload it back to your hosting for it to take effect.

Plugins give you the ability to easily add new features to your site such as a slideshow, gallery, and many other tools for you to improve with. There are thousands of free and paid plugins available and in this video, we will show you how to install a WordPress plugin.

Note: If you are on WordPress.com, unless you have a business plan you will be unable to install plugins, our tutorials are for hosted/WordPress.org sites.

The first method would be the simplest, under Plugins, Add New, there will be a screen where you can search for plugins using the search bar in the top right. These plugins are the free plugins found in the WordPress.org plugin repository. After you find the plugin you want to install you will want to click the Install Now button followed by the Activate button once it is installed. If you do not activate the plugin, you will not see any change to your site.

There are some plugins that are not on the WordPress.org plugin repository where you would purchase them and need to manually upload them to the site. When you purchase a plugin from a different site, they should send a .zip file that you will need to upload.

On the Plugins, Add New page at the top you would want to click the Upload plugin button at the top of the page. For this method, you do not need to remove the folder from the zip file. Once you click the link you should have the option to upload the zip file to your site which will automatically unzip and install the plugin on your site for you to activate.

As the third method, we will be using FTP. If you do not know how to use FTP you would want to take a look at our article:

http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-use-ftp-to-upload-files-to-wordpress-for-beginners/

Should for some reason you do not want or are unable to use the previous two methods then you can use FTP. With the FTP connected you will want to navigate to your wp-content folder then to the plugin folder. Inside this folder you want to upload the unzipped folder with the plugin’s files. This should add the plugin to your site where you will activate it under Plugins, Installed Plugins.

How to Create a Custom Login Page for WordPress

Do you want to create a custom login page for your WordPress site? A custom login page lets you customize the page for users to sign up for your site instead of using the default WordPress login page. In this article, we will show you how to create a custom login page for WordPress without writing any code.

Timestamps
00:00 Intro
00:18 Method 1: Use Theme My Login
02:15 Method 2: how to add custom login with WPForms
05:30 Add custom login in sidebar

For the first method in our video, we will be using the Theme My Login plugin found here:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/theme-my-login

With that installed and activated the plugin will attempt to use your theme’s styling to create a login page. You can customize the plugin’s settings under the TML settings area. This allows you to allow custom emails and even redirection through the plugin.

For our second method, we will be using the premium version of WPForms found here:

https://wpforms.com

You will be given a zip file that you would upload under Plugins, Add New, and click the upload button at the top of the page. Activate the plugin and it will take you to the WPForms welcome page. Activate the product key for the site and in the addons area, we will activate the user registration addon.

With the plugin and it’s addon active, create a new form, name it, and create a new User Login Form. By default it will have a username and password field set up for use and in the settings you can decide where the user goes after logging in. All you need to do now is go to a page, add any customizations you would like, and then click the add form button to select and insert the code for your form to appear on that page when you publish it.

How to Find Which WordPress Theme a Site is Using

Have you wanted to know which WordPress theme a website is using? We often get questions from users asking what theme a specific site is using and how they can get it. In this video, we will show you how to easily find out which WordPress theme a specific site is using.

For the first method, we will use in this video is the site IsItWP found here:

http://www.isitwp.com

Enter the URL for the site you want to know about and it will attempt to scan the site’s information for if it is a WordPress site and if it is the site should display what theme is being used. Sites like this one will also attempt to show you the plugins a specific site is currently using.

If a site like that does not reveal the theme for you or you are looking for how to do so without the need for a site you could find the information manually. To do this you will want to right click the page and click View Page Source.

A new window will open up filled with HTML in text form for the page you were just on. On this page, you will want to use the search function in your browser. You can use either control and the F key as the normal shortcut or you can normally go to the top right for the find option if the shortcut does not work.

In the search field, you will want to put in style.css to find any lines that include that. If it is a WordPress site it should bring you to a link that you will want to click to bring up the theme’s style.csss. At the top of this new page, it will have information about the theme including the theme URI where you can find where the theme’s homepage is located for download normally.
